Thailand is one of the countries that have lots of wedding. It is also considered as LGBT+ friendly country. Today, the Weddinglist team is lucky to have a chance to interview Mr. Charlie and Mr. Andrew, a couple who organized their wedding at PHUKET-PHANG NGA RESORT AND SPA. Let’s find out their impression and also reason for choosing Thailand as their wedding place and why at PHUKET-PHANG NGA RESORT AND SPA.
Once Upon A Time Wedding @ALEENTA PHUKET-PHANG NGA RESORT AND SPA
Charlie and I live in Australia. My (Andrew’s) family are from Australia and Charlie’s family are from the UK. Because we had so many family and friends split between Australia and the UK, we chose to get married in Thailand – 1. because it is roughly halfway between Australia and the UK, and 2. because it is a gay-friendly country.
For our wedding we wanted to create a 3-day event, with a party holiday vibe – a perfect mix of relaxation and fun.
Charlie and I had been together as a couple for 10 years when we got married, so the wedding was also a celebration and thanks to our family and friends who have supported us over the years.
Every part of the 3-day event was perfect. We wouldn’t change a thing. But of course the wedding day was the highlight – the best day of our life. We kept lots of details a surprise for our guests – including the wedding venue itself, the entertainment (Lady Boy Show), the fireworks, etc. We wanted to create a house party vibe – reminiscent of the wonderful holidays we’ve been on with our friends, and all the house parties we’ve been to with them over the years – for everyone to feel relaxed (a homely feel), but also in the mood to party. And our wedding day was just that!
The best moment was seeing the looks of surprise and sheer joy on the faces of our family and friends. They couldn’t believe how much effort we had gone to surprise and thank them – it was like one surprise after the other. We firstly arranged little gift bags in their rooms, including a personalised travel guide book (with stories of every guest, information about Thailand and Natai Beach, and of course all the key wedding details). This was followed by our surprise welcome party on the beach at Akyra – beach BBQ dinner, themed cocktails, music and ‘getting to know you’ games. On the wedding day guests were taken to our surprise wedding location (Aleenta’s private villa) – complete with Andrew’s gin bar, Charlie’s vodka bar, and lots of different themed spaces for them to explore. We wanted to recreate elements of our favourite holiday memories, so all of the little touches including photos and table names reflected that. The wedding ceremony was just beautiful – we both walked down the aisle (on the beach) with our mum’s, and to our favourite song. And then the reception event was incredible – our wedding speech was a personalised story of how we knew each guest and what they meant to us, and this was broken up with 3x Lady Boy performances, and concluded with a fireworks show on the beach. After the fireworks, the DJ arrived, and everyone partied late into the evening – all guests, even parents, ended up in the swimming pool. Then the next day, for our recovery pool party, we organised hangover food and drinks, and guests continued to party and relax by the pool, and share all their favourite wedding memories.
Everyone had the best time, and it was such a joy to see everyone coming together and having the time of their lives.
Why you choose to arrange the wedding at Aleenta ?
We visited Thailand the year prior to our wedding to look for a wedding venue. We spent an entire week visiting 30+ different venues and hotels all across Phuket island. The moment we went to Aleenta / Akyra we knew it was the perfect place for us. It just felt right; it was exactly what we were looking for. The mix of accommodation options at both Aleenta and Akyra meant that our guests could all be accommodated in the same area, but be given the choice of different rooms to suit different budgets. Some guests wanted luxury, whereas other guests wanted more affordable options, and everyone was able to be accommodated with their preferences. The beautiful beachfront location, the remote feeling (away from crowds), the closeness to the airport (for ease of access), and the mix of restaurants, bars, pools and spa offerings all rounded out the experience. We were also really impressed by Aleenta’s wedding & events team – they were very professional, prepared, and completely understood the vibe we were looking for. But, the big ticket item – the main deciding factor – was the ability to hire Aleenta’s private villa (next door to Akyra). We didn’t just want a standard hotel wedding in a boring function room, but it was important to have somewhere close to a hotel (to accommodate our guests). Our dream was to have a ‘house party’ wedding day, and the private villa enabled us to do just that.
Any wedding planner or organizer ?
We worked very closely with Aleenta’s wedding & events team. Our main contact was a lady called Bow, who was incredible! She was very patient with us, very quick to respond to all of our questions and emails, and managed everything so perfectly across our 3-day event. She even had a minute-by-minute schedule, which she (and her team) executed brilliantly. We couldn’t have done it without Bow and the entire Aleenta wedding & events team.
What is your wedding concept or theme ? and why it be like that?
We wanted a house party vibe that recreated the wonderful travel memories we had. We legally got married in Australia the week prior, so it was less about the formalities, and more about the celebration of having all of our favourite people together, on holiday in the same space. We always go on lots of big group holidays, whether with family or with friends, and so to have all of our family and friends together on the one holiday was a dream come true. We wanted it to be a fun, party vibe – like the ultimate holiday party. And it was!
What do you think about service, food & beverage from Aleenta ? How was it ?
Are you impressed with Aleenta ?
100% yes! We cannot wait to go back to holiday there again. Such a beautiful location, fantastic facilities and mix of offerings, and an overall awesome vibe.
Are wedding guests happy or appreciate with Aleenta ? What was they saying about ?
Everyone was so impressed. We still get family and friends telling us today (2.5 years later) that it was the best wedding they have ever been to, and the best holiday they have been on. I’m sure many of them will go back for future holidays.
We’ve seen your wedding ceremony photos and we think your wedding is perfect, what is your secret to create your own wedding ? Could you share with us ?
Find a theme and style of wedding that is authentic to you as a couple – that authentically reflects who you are as people, and as a couple. The biggest compliment someone can give you is to say that your wedding was a true reflection; a true celebration; of you both – not pretending to be something else, or for anyone else – but that has ‘you’ stamped all over it. Our wedding obviously wouldn’t be suitable or right for everyone, but for us it was perfect, and very much reflected who we are as people.
Could you tell us about contact of vendors in your wedding ?
Everything was organised by Aleenta’s wedding & events team – the entertainment (Lady Boy show), the DJ, the fireworks, the food & drink, etc.
Do you have any suggestion for a bride-to-be and groom-to-be who are looking for information about getting married?
Don’t worry about what other people want you to do – find a theme and style of wedding that suits you, and stick with that. Then, find 2 or 3 things that you want to focus on to do really well, and channel all your efforts into those 2 or 3 things. Everything else will fall into place, but think about the 2 or 3 things you want your guests to remember your wedding for. For us, the most important things were the ‘house party vibe’ (hence the villa), to ‘recreate our favourite travel memories’ (hence all of the little travel-related touches) and to ‘make the experience very personal for our guests’ (hence the personalised gift bags and personalised wedding speech).
